Database installation
Only when you are using the members database on a Local Area Network or
possibly the Wide Area Network (internet) will you need to install the
database server. In the standard installation of the ASE Scorer the database
software from Firebird is installed as part of the scorer. That is called
the embedded version.
The embedded version will work with a server so long as that server has
Firebird 2.5.1 installed. The non-embedded version of ASE9 is required when the
server has a different version of Firebird or Interbase.
ASE Scorer 9 is developed and tested using Version 2.5 of Firebird. The
earlier Firebird versions should work fine for most situations and was supplied
in earlier installations of the ASE Scorer.
The ASE Scorer will also operate with InterBase by Borland
if already installed on your machine.
The recommended open source (free) version is available from FireBird. See http://www.firebirdsql.org/ for
more details. Firebird install kit is available from this site.
The ASE Scorer is developed using Firebird 2.5
